A Timeless Tribute to Your Beloved Animal

Our animals become such an important part of our lives. They are there for the happy moments, the difficult ones, and all the little moments in between. That is why I love creating portraits that capture not just what your animal looks like, but the personality and character that make them so special to you.

At Bex Equestrian & Animal Art, I create completely bespoke, lifelike animal portraits, carefully drawn to capture the details that make your pet unique.

From the softness and direction of their fur, to their eyes, markings and little expressions, I take great care over every detail. Whether it's a much-loved dog, a beautiful horse, a cheeky cat or another special animal, my aim is to create a portrait that feels truly personal to you.

For me, a portrait is more than simply a drawing. It is a way of holding on to those special memories and celebrating the bond you share with your animal.

Your Reference Photos

Good reference photographs make a huge difference when creating a detailed and lifelike portrait.

Ideally, I would like one main photograph that is:

• Clear and high-resolution

• Taken around your animal's eye level

• Well lit, preferably with natural light

• Clear enough to see the eyes and facial features

• Detailed enough for me to see the coat, markings and individual features

The clearer the photograph, the more detail I can put into your drawing. Being able to see the direction of the hair, individual hairs, the eyes and little details in the face helps me bring your animal to life on paper.

Additional Photos

If you have other photographs of your animal, please send them too!

Extra photographs can be incredibly helpful. They allow me to see your animal from different angles and understand things such as their markings, expressions, coat and overall appearance.

Please make sure you have permission to use any photographs you send to me and that they are not subject to copyright restrictions that prevent them from being used for commissioned artwork.

What If You Only Have an Old or Poor-Quality Photo?

I completely understand that sometimes the photograph you have is the only one available — especially when creating a memorial portrait for an animal who has passed away.

Please don't worry about this. Send me what you have and we can discuss what is possible.

A lower-quality photograph can sometimes mean that I am unable to include quite as much fine detail, but I will always do my very best to capture the character and essence of your animal and create something beautiful for you to remember them by.

Need Photos Taken?

If you don't have suitable photographs of your pet, I may be able to come to you and take them for you.

There is a minimum call-out fee of £30, with the final price depending on the distance I need to travel and the time required.

How Long Will My Portrait Take?

A commission will generally take around 1 month to complete .

Every portrait is different, though, and the time can vary depending on the size, number of animals and level of detail involved, as well as how many commissions I have at the time.

If you have a particular date you'd like your portrait for, please let me know as early as possible.

I recommend:

• Booking at least 3 months ahead for general commissions

• Booking around 6 months ahead if you need your portrait before Christmas

Christmas and other busy periods can fill up quickly, so the earlier you get in touch, the better chance I have of fitting your commission in.

How to Commission a Portrait

Before you pay your deposit, I would really like to hear from you and have a chat about your portrait.

Just get in touch and let me know:

• What size portrait you are interested in

• How many animals you would like included

• When you would ideally like it completed

• What photographs you have

• Anything else you'd like me to know about your animal or your ideas for the portrait

We can then look through your photographs together and work out the best way to create your portrait.

Once we have discussed everything and you're happy to go ahead, a 40% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place.

I'll then begin working on your commission and keep you updated as it progresses.

Once the portrait is finished and you are happy with it, the remaining balance will be due. Your artwork will then be carefully packaged and sent to you.

This gives us the opportunity to make sure we're both happy with the photographs, size, requirements and timescale before your commission is booked.

Portrait Pricing

A5 — 5.8 × 8.3 inches — £155
A4 — 8.3 × 11.7 inches — £280
A3 — 11.7 × 16.5 inches — £552
A2 — 16.5 × 23.4 inches — £830

These prices are for a portrait featuring one animal.

If you would like more than one animal included in the portrait, each additional animal is charged at 30% of the base price.

If you have something a little different in mind, please don't hesitate to ask. Sizes, surfaces, and other details can be adapted where possible to suit your requirements.

Packaging & Shipping

I take great care when preparing your finished artwork for its journey to you.

Once the artwork has been paid for in full, it will be carefully flat-packed in a sturdy box to help protect it during transit.

Artwork will also be sent with insurance for additional peace of mind.

Copyright & Artwork Terms

Each portrait I create is an original piece of artwork and reflects my own artistic style and interpretation of your reference photographs.

I retain the copyright to the artwork. Purchasing the original portrait does not transfer copyright to the buyer.

This means that I retain the right to create prints or other reproductions of the artwork unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

If a commissioned artwork is not purchased, I reserve the right to sell the original artwork, create reproductions and use images of the artwork for promotional purposes.

I will always aim to create a portrait that captures your animal as accurately and beautifully as possible, but please remember that the finished piece is my artistic interpretation of the reference photographs provided.
